We will ensure Khaleda Zia’s treatment abroad through movement: Fakhrul
Fakhrul also said the movement would oust the government as well
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has asked the government to set their party chairperson Khaleda Zia free for treatment abroad otherwise the party would go for tougher movement to ensure it.
"Khaleda Zia is not an outsider and has not become a leader overnight. As a leader, she has sacrificed a lot. Set her free immediately and let her have treatment abroad. Otherwise, we will set her free and send her abroad through movement. The movement will oust you [the government] too," said Fakhrul as the chief guest at a demonstration rally on Saturday.
Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the party, organised the demo in front of the National Press Club demanding former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's release and medical treatment abroad.
Mirza Fakhrul also said, "Enemies on the border are still afraid as Khaleda Zia is alive. She is the symbol of independence, sovereignty and democracy of this country. Without her, there will be no democracy. If Khaleda Zia is not alive, there will be no Awami League too."
BNP Special Secretary and former Chhatra Dal president Asaduzzaman Ripon said Khaleda Zia was fit enough and could walk when she was taken to the Old Dhaka Prison and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU).
"But when she was in BSMMU, pro-government physicians did not report that she had any liver problem. How could she develop liver problems just after a short period! We think the government has poisoned her slowly," Ripon claimed.
Amanullah Aman, a convener of BNP (Dhaka North), said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and even ward councillors go abroad for treatment but "the government has made Khaleda Zia sick by poisoning her slowly, and to conceal that the government is not allowing her to go abroad."
Chhatra Dal Organising Secretary Saif Mahmud Jewel said Chhatra Dal activists are ready to take any action, even to sacrifice their lives for setting her free.
Chhatra Dal President Fazlur Rahman Khokon presided over the programme while Chhatra Dal General Secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamol conducted the event. Other leaders from Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal also spoke on the occasion.
Law enforcers deployed more policemen to beef up the security in the adjacent areas.
