Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Salina Hayat Ivy has requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the authorities concerned to impose curfew in Narayanganj city to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The request was made in press release issued by Narayanganj City Corporation on Sunday.

"Coronavirus is spreading fast all across the globe. It has already reached the industrial areas of Narayanganj. The number of Covid-19 patients is increasing every day," the press release read.

According to the press release, the area is currently crowded with workers who used to work in ready-made garments and other industries that are currently closed due to the virus. Therefore, the risk of spreading the highly contagious virus in the city is high.

Requesting the prime minister and the authorities concerned to lock down the city or impose curfew, the Narayanganj mayor expressed fear that the situation might get out of hand if necessary measures are not taken up right now.
