A Cumilla court has sentenced four people to death and jailed one for 10 years for killing Abdur Rahman, an army member, on a moving train after a robbery in 2016.

Additional District and Sessions Justice Rozina Khan passed the order on Monday afternoon.

The death row convicts are- Sirajul Islam alias Babul, Nayan Mia alias Johnny, Ujjwal Mia and Pradip Das. While Ali Akkas has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

Additional Public Prosecutor (Additional PP) Advocate Masud Iqbal Chowdhury confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

The court also fined all of them with Tk1 lakh each.

The death row convicts were present in the court when the verdict was announced.

Abdur Rahman, 30, a member of one signal battalion of Bogura Cantonment, was stabbed to death by robbers on a moving train on 21 October, 2016.

On the same morning, Laksam Railway Police recovered Abdur's body from the middle of the rail line at Gotrashal near Nangalkot Railway Station on Dhaka-Chattogram Railway.

Victim's father, Mofizur Rahman filed a murder case with Laksam Railway Police Station a day after the murder.
