In a boost to the country’s exports, Bangladesh will export one lakh metric tons of rice to the Philippines.
“We want to purchase one lakh metric tons of rice from Bangladesh and such rice purchase trend will continue to remain in future,” said Marc Coll, who is leading the visiting Pilipino rice exporters’ team, following his a meeting with Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque at his ministry office here.
Lauding Bangladesh success in agriculture, the Pilipino delegates said the Philippines is a rice-exporting country and they export rice after importing it from different countries.
He said that the Philippines once upon a time was an import-based country but now this disaster-prone country has turned around from its past.
Regarding the rice export in the Philippines, the agriculture minister said “We had a fruitful discussion with the Pilipino delegation.
Bangladesh which once was a rice-importing country now has becomes a rice-exporting country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
Bangladesh has a surplus rice stock of nearly 10 lakh metric tons every year and the country will increase rice exports gradually, Dr Razzaque said.
