A recent report shared by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) shows that 4,510 irregular Bangladeshi nationals reached Europe in 2020 via illegal means.

The report based on data from Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Europe, said that these Bangladeshi migrants arrived in Europe by sea and by land. They entered through Italy, Malta, Spain or Greece.

The highest share of Bangladeshi nationals was registered in Italy which is 92% of the total arrivals by land and by sea.

Additionally, 8,844 Bangladeshi nationals were tracked while transiting through the Western Balkan countries during the same year, primarily through Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to the International Migrants Stock 2020 by United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), a total of 456,516 Bangladeshi nationals resided in Europe in 2020.
