The men, the myths, the legends
Our heroes have fought crocodiles with bare hands, they have come back to life after doctors declared them dead.
He is the man extraordinaire, he is the epitome of justice, he is the savior of all humanity and he is our stereotypical Bangla film hero!
There is simply nothing he cannot do, be it beating the vilest of villains to a pulp while riding a horse or, rotating his hips to a solid 360 degree along with his ladylove during songs, he can do it all.
Our heroes have fought crocodiles with bare hands, they have come back to life after doctors declared them dead, and they have turned into multibillionaires from garage mechanics.
We have created a list of these heroes who have enriched the silver screen and our lives with their presence.
Wasim
Our fantasy films are as entertaining as the Twilight series; without much story, full of absurdities yet thoroughly amusing. Other than the red tinted backgrounds, which give a mild headache, these tales of kings, queens, fairies and jinns are great.
Wasim was perhaps one of the best fantasy heroes because he could pull off the thin moustache, silver pants with matching waistband (and bracelets!) looking like a pro. He could also sword fight like no other, defying gravity and all.
Jashim
Jashim was always a delight to watch. His wig, moustache, striped shirt, bell bottoms were style statements that many others tried to follow later but failed.
His age was always a thing of mystery because in some scene he was a college student (also working part-time as a rickshaw puller) where as in the next he was running an industry (all by himself!).
Jashim was also the quintessential moral preacher because nobody could reach nirvana without sitting under a Bodhi tree like him. He could change a snake into a saint within minutes!
Rubel
Before Rubel, our heroes were throwing hissy fits in the name of fighting and flailing their arms like those wacky waving balloon men. Rubel taught us what fighting in rhythm and style looked like, till now he is our very own Jackie Chan.
There was a film where villains had beaten Rubel unconscious but when the heroine began to sing, Rubel woke up (just like that!) and began to fight, in sync, with the song. Let that sink in!
Manna
Manna introduced all the heat in our Bangla films, if he was not screaming, he was crying, when he was not crying, he was sweating. His style of back brushed hair and a metal chain peeking out from a shirt against a backdrop of hairy chest is still lovingly remembered by fans around the country.
