On 11 June, the 7th Anniversary of Bangladesh Local Guide and its 161 number meet up programme was organised in Mawa, near Dhaka, at the newly launched restaurant "Project Hilsa".
A total of 120 local guides from all over Bangladesh were selected this year through a special process and invited them to participate in the event, reads a press release on Monday.
Anniversary celebrations are usually arranged on a specific theme in connection on a contemporary public awareness issue. The main purpose of the event was to give volunteers the opportunity to gain insights and knowledge on the theme so that they can play a role in raising public awareness.
This year's programme mail title was "Save energy towards better future" and theme was "Renewable Energy and Energy saving Scope in Bangladesh ".
Mr Abdul Gaffar, representative engineer of Solar Land Bangladesh Limited, gave an informative presentation on the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh, various ways to earn from renewable electricity and various energy saving techniques.
Local guide Mr Sirajul Azad was the main organiser of the seven years celebration event. He called upon the members of all local guides to work for the betterment and enrichment of various information of Bangladesh on google maps.
He also highlighted the ongoing activities of google local guide while Mr Zahirul Islam, one of the members of the local guide, conducted the programme.
Community moderator Mr Mahabub Hasan gave a short speech on various techniques of google map community. It is worth mentioning that under the leadership of Mr Mahabub Hasan, Bangladesh local guide won the award for the best local guide community in the world from google.
Also, Google Local Guide Connect awarded him "Guiding Star" for the year 2020 under community builder as the only Bangladeshi for his outstanding contribution.
Mr Taslim Ahmed, director of Project Hilsa explained the details of the establishment of Project Hilsa, the unique features of the restaurant and how they have managed to save electricity by using daylight technology in their restaurant and using this system saving the electricity by using natural light.
CEO of Project Hilsa Mr Sukanto spoke about the variety and quality of the restaurant's food.
Mr Masudur Rahim, CEO of Omera Solar and Mr Junaid Quader Rush, general secretary of Exxas were present as special guests to encourage the members of Bangladesh local guide. They assured the cooperation of Bangladesh local guide in any need.
Bangladesh local guide is a google map based volunteer community google local guide connects. There are chapters of this community in different countries of the world. The name of the chapter in Bangladesh is Bangladesh local guide.
Basically, the members of this community update various roads, transit, place and other information on Google Maps accurately and correct the wrong information on the map which includes other information like open or closed, time table, web site link, phone number, picture added.
The community, which started in Bangladesh in 2014, now has more than 6,000 members across the country, working tirelessly to make the map of Bangladesh informative, accurate and correct. Apart from Bangladesh Local Guide map based activities, this community also works to inspire various social service and national consciousness.
