No lobbying ─ transfers will be systematic: IGP

Saying no to lobbying in the transfer procedures of police officials, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed wants to implement a transfer and posting policy for police personnel.

He believes that most of the police officers don't want to go outside Dhaka considering the education facilities for their children. Keeping that in mind, Bangladesh Police is taking initiatives to establish quality educational institutes in divisions outside Dhaka.

Dr Benazir made the comments during a seminar in Rajarbagh Bangladesh Police Auditorium in the capital, which he attended as the chief guest.

During his speech, Dr Benazir also said that Bangladesh police will ensure proper medical treatment facilities for police officials working outside of Dhaka.

"Police forces have earned people's trust again. The force provided services that aren't part of their job. They did it from their sense of responsibility," he said.

The IGP further said that police didn't get this much respect from the public since the Liberation War.

"Now people are talking in favour of the police. They are writing for the police. Even those who used to criticise the force are supporting them now," he said.

Paying tribute to the 46 police officials who lost their lives to Covid-19, the police IGP expressed deep commitment to staying beside their families for any need.
