Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said coordination among government organisations is a must to finalise the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) and implement it for the development of the city.

The mayor made the remarks after a meeting with DSCC councilors on the DAP made by the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripaksha (RAJUK) at Nagar Bhaban on Monday.

Mayor Taposh said RAJUK would formulate all these policy-making issues, including DAP, and the corporation would play a supportive role in their proper implementation.

''So, the two organisations supplement each other, there's nothing conflicting here. If we can do the coordination more smoothly, we will be able to fulfill the aspirations of Dhaka's dwellers," he said.

The DSCC Mayor said in light of the discussion between the two organisations, if RAJUK reinstates the suggestions made by DSCC councilors in the Detailed Area Plan, it will be successfully able to formulate a complete DAP.

Mayor Taposh called upon RAJUK to hand over the playgrounds, children's parks and water bodies to the Dhaka South City Corporation.

He further said RAJUK is not responsible for maintaining or managing the playgrounds, the water bodies, children's park and open spaces for children in the city. It should be the responsibility of the city corporation.

The DSCC mayor told the RAJUK Chairman, "If you hand them over to us, then we will be able to manage them properly for the welfare of Dhaka city's dwellers."

RAJUK Chairman M Sayeed Nur Alam said nothing can be made sustainable without the involvement of the public. Many have already done so, ignoring the involvement of the people. That is why those efforts have not been sustainable.
