The Directorate General of Drug Administration on Monday fixed the prices of hand sanitizers manufactured by seven pharmaceutical companies in the country.
Hand sanitizers cannot be sold for more than the maximum retail price (MRP), according to the press release.
The measure has been taken after consultation with the companies amid the sudden price hike of the product in the wake of the confirmation of the first coronavirus cases in the country, said the administration.
Director General of the drug administration Major General Md Mahbubur Rahaman said if anyone sells hand sanitizer at prices higher than the set amount, they will face legal action.
He also asked the retailers not to sell more than one sanitizer to a person and requested people not to stockpile the product unnecessarily.
"After consultation with the companies, I came to know that there is sufficient stock of hand sanitizer raw material in the country," the director general said.
