Such attack unacceptable: Ducsu ex-VP Akhtazuzzaman

Former vice-president of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union Akhtazuzzaman has denounced the attack on Ducsu leader Nurul Haque Nur.

"Such attack is not acceptable," he said while speaking to The Business Standard over the phone on Monday.

"Whole country look at the Dhaka University in a different way. They show enough respect," he added.

"Even the mass people's respect for the Ducsu leaders has not ended. One thing is clear that Ducsu leaders later became national leaders," Akhtaruzzaman also said.

"Mujahidul Islam Selim, Rashed khan Menon, Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed and Amanullah Aman - all were elected leaders of the Ducsu. I am also an ex-vice president of the Ducsu. We all are now national leaders."

"It was a good start after long 28 years through the Ducsu election. The defeated candidates also accepted the new leaders. But VP Nur is coming under attacks one after another. This is not acceptable," the ex-VP also said.

He said the university administration should ensure cooperation among all student organisations on the campus by strictly handling this kind of attacks. Then the lost tradition of Ducsu will come back.

"If we go back a little, it can be said that the students of the country came first in revolutions. From the language movement, 1962's student movement to the latest anti-autocrat movement - sacrifices and contributions of students and Ducsu leaders were remarkable," he also said.

"So I still hope that student politics will get back its lost glory. Let them move again to ensure the rights of the students."

"In fact, the nation still has high expectations to healthy student politics," said the ex-VP.
