Locals block highway for relief in Dinajpur
Sundarbans Union Parishad chairman Ashok Kumar Roy distributed relief items among his relatives instead of those who are really needy and helpless, protesters alleged
Amid risk coronavirus transmission, hundreds of locals blocked the Dinajpur-Rangpur Highway for five hours on Monday, demanding relief and protesting against local union parishad chairman's nepotism in distributing relief.
The protesters alleged that Ashok Kumar Roy, chairman of Sadar Upazila's 2 no Sundarbans Union Parishad, distributed relief items among his relatives instead of those who were really needy and helpless.
In protest, they blocked the highway at Darbarpur of Dinajpur Sadar at 9am.
Informed, Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shahriar Rahman along with UP Chairman Ashok Kumar Roy and police personnel went to the spot at noon and persuaded the agitators to life the blockade.
The assistant commissioner asked the people concerned to make a list of those who did not get relief in the area.
The protestors lifted the blockade at 2pm.
