Newly married woman tortured, stabbed to death by husband
The deceased succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital's intensive care unit
A newly-married woman was stabbed to death by her husband in Kuril Bishwa Road area in the capital on November 28.
The deceased is Kaniz Fatema Tumpa, 25, from Bakerganj upazila of Barisal district.
Tumpa, after her marriage with Safkhat Hasan Robin, 27, the accused, was reportedly being physically tortured by him ever since.
During another such incident, getting a call from Tumpa, her aunt Nazma Akter rushed to the couple's home and found Tumpa to be locked inside a bathroom to save herself from Safkhat's beating.
As Nazma was taking Tumpa out of the home, Safkhat stabbed the latter from behind, injuring her critically.
Tumpa was immediately taken to Kurmitola General Hospital.
Later, she was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital's intensive care unit, where she succumbed to her injuries 9pm yesterday after a day-long struggle.
Talking to The Business Standard, Tumpa's younger sister Aysha informed her sister got married to Safkhat in September.
Breaking up in tears, she added, "Safkhat revealed his true nature after the marriage. He was a drug addict and regularly used to beat up my sister."
Aysha urged the law enforcement agencies to nab the perpetrator immediately.
Deceased Tumpa's autopsy will take place at 11am today, informed Sohel Mahmud, head of forensic department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
