Man arrested for plasma fraud in Dhaka

Police on Saturday arrested a man from Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital on charges of cheating Covid-19 patients, by promising to donate plasma.
The arrestee is Ahsanul Farid, 47, a resident of Dhaka's Dhanmondi area.
Abul Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station said Ahsanul used to look for someone who had recovered from Covid-19. Then, he would introduce himself as a nephew of a Covid-19 patient whose condition is critical and needs a plasma donor urgently.
''After collecting plasma, Ahsanul would sell it for Tk15,000 to Tk20,000 using various ways including social media platforms."
Farid had cheated many people after Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the country, the OC said.
A case was filed against him with Shahbagh Police Station, he added.
