CID busts robbers’ gang ahead of Eid
It said the arrestees had a plan to commit robbery at different cattle markets in the capital ahead of Eid-ul-Adha
A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday arrested four suspected members of a dope gang in the capital's Merul Badda area.
The arrestees are Md Masud, 25, Md Mamun alias Sattar, 35, Md Sumon alias Musa, 26, and Md Sumon, 36.
"They are members of a criminal group that mainly commits robbery. They are doing this for a while in the Dhaka city and surrounding areas," said Mohammad Kamruzzaman, a special superintendent of the CID.
He said the criminals were getting organised ahead of the upcoming Eid-Ul-Adha with a plan to commit robbery at different cattle markets in the capital.
They were planning to make away with everything from public transport passengers and people who go to cattle markets after applying sedatives on them, said Kamruzzaman at a press briefing at the CID headquarters on Monday.
The CID also recovered a private car (Dhaka Metro- Kha-13-1268), a machete, a dagger, a towel, some sedative medicines and poisonous ointments from their possession.
"The criminals always use private cars, knives, machetes, pepper spray and various sedative medicines," he added.
"In the capital and surrounding areas, they hire CNG auto-rickshaws in disguise of passengers, guide the drivers to their pre-scheduled places, feed them sleeping pills or use ointment in their eyes and make away with their money along with the vehicles," said Kamruzzaman.
