Examine health impacts of toys inside chips packets: HC
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution has been directed to submit its investigation report within two weeks
The High Court has ordered the government authorities to examine the health impacts of toys - made of plastics and other material - offered inside chips packets.
The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) will have to submit its investigation report to the court within two weeks.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman on Sunday also asked the companies concerned to explain why they should not be directed to avoid putting toys inside chips packets.
The commerce secretary, the home secretary, the chairmen and the heads of marketing of MM Ispahani Ltd and Ingreen Ltd have been made respondents to the rule.
Lawyer Md Moniruzzaman, who stood for the petitioner at the hearing, said children can sometimes swallow the toys subconsciously while eating chips.
"It came out in a research that the plastic toys can cause harm to their health. That is why the writ has been filed," he told journalists.
