Compensation for Abrar's family: High Court declines to hear writ petition

The High Court declined to hear a writ petition, demanding compensation of Tk10 crore for Abrar Fahad's family and seeking a directive on Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) to pay the compensation.

The writ also sought a directive for a judicial inquiry into the case, and for providing security to Abrar's family.

A hearing on this writ, scheduled to be held on Monday before the High Court bench of Justices Md Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Md Ashraful Kamal, did not take place.

However, the writ petition has been referred to another High Court bench for a hearing in the future.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate AKM Fayez filed the writ petition on October 13.

Abrar was a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of Buet whom some Bangladesh Chhatra League Buet leaders, allegedly, beat to death in his dormitory on October 7.
