Union Parishad Member, his men hack journalist’s brother
Chairman allegedly sells 24 tress damaged due to Cyclone Bulbul to a UP member for Tk75 thousand but the market price of those is over Tk10 lakh, brother of the injured claimed
A member of Brahma Rajpur union parishad (UP) in Satkhira Sadar hacked a man while gathering information along with his journalist brother about selling trees by the chairman of UP at lower rate than market price.
The injured, Abdur Rahim, is brother of Rezaul Karim Mithu who works at Mofoshal Barta, a newspaper published from Satkhira.
Abdus Selim, another brother of the injured, told The Business Standard that Brahma Rajpur union parishad chairman Shahidul Islam had sold 24 tress on road which damaged due to the Cyclone Bulbul to UP member Kurban Ali for Tk75 thousand.
The market price of the trees is over Tk10 lakh, Selim claimed.
According to the case statement, Kurban Ali and his workers were cutting down the trees Monday (Nov 25). Mithu along with his brother Rahim went to the spot to collect information for his newspaper.
Facing different queries, the UP member and his people hacked Rahim randomly, leaving him injured badly. He was undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar police station Mostafizur Rahman said that Mithu on Tuesday (Nov 26) filed a case in the police station against seven people, including the UP member in this connection.
Efforts are going on to arrest the accused, the OC added.
When contacted, Kurban Ali told The Business Standard that as the journalist and his brother made obstruction in cutting down the trees, a clash took place there.
Besides, chairman Shahidul Islam, "I have sold the trees as per the rules. There is no question of corruption. The trees were sold at reasonable prices. "
