Ministry launches mobile sales of milk, eggs and meat
Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock sold eggs, milk and meat worth Tk9,000 crore in last year’s countrywide shutdown
The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has launched mobile sales of milk, eggs and meat at fair prices across the country to ensure animal protein supply to the people during the pandemic-led lockdown.
This initiative was launched Wednesday as the mobile sales began at Secretariat gate, Khamarbari, Mirpur-10 and Dhanmondi in the capital.
Around 1,200 litres of milk were sold in the capital on the first day of the programme.
The ministry said the Department of Livestock Services, Dhaka has taken up an initiative to continue the mobile sales by involving marginal farmers including dairy and poultry associations at ten points in Dhaka.
Besides, mobile sales of milk, eggs and meat will continue in all district and upazila headquarters. Farmers will be able to sell milk, eggs and meat directly to consumers at a fair price through the mobile sales.
On Tuesday at a virtual meeting, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim directed the fisheries and livestock officials across the country to start the sales.
It can be noted that the ministry in a similar initiative sold eggs, milk and meat worth Tk9,000 crore in last year's countrywide shutdown.
