Dog squad to add to airport security
Dogs have strong sense of smell that can help find out contraband and narcotic items in airports
Dog squads are going to be included in security forces at all airports of Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave authorities concerned directives in this regard at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on developing securities of international airports on Tuesday.
Quoting the prime minister, officials who attended the meeting said that dogs have strong sense of smell that can help find out contraband and narcotic items in airports.
These trained dogs will also help stop smuggling of gold and foreign currencies through airports, she said.
Dog squads would be used in three international airports – Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattrogram, and Osmani International Airport in Sylhet – as well as six other domestic airports across the country.
