4.79 lakh unfit vehicles running across the country
The report, submitted to the HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul, said that more than half of the unfit vehicles are running in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has submitted a report to the High Court on Tuesday saying that 4,79,320 vehicles without fitness certificate are running across the country.
The report, submitted to the HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul, said that more than half of the unfit vehicles are running in Dhaka.
Among the unfit vehicles, 2,61,113 are in Dhaka division, 1,19,588 in Chattogram division, 26,240 in Rajshahi, 6,588 in Rangpur, 15,668 in Khulna, 4,4805 in Sylhet and 5,338 in Barishal division, according to the report.
The report also said that this year Tk 6,72,23,392 have been received as fine from unfit vehicles and a total of 39,837 cases were filed across the country. Law enforcement authorities have jailed 728 drivers and dumped 214 cars.
BRTA's lawyer Advocate Rafiul Islam submitted the report to the High Court as per its June 24 order.
On June 24, a report was submitted by the BRTA before the HC on a suo moto rule the court issued earlier.
Later the HC asked the BRTA to submit a detailed report with more information.
