Consumer rights protection body fines 68 entities Tk9 lakh
The Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection on Wednesday fined 68 business entities across the country Tk8.77 lakh on the grounds of several irregularities found against them.
According to a press statement issued by assistant director of the consumer rights protection body, Tahmina Begum, officials of the directorate's head office, divisional offices, and districts offices, conducted drives on Thursday in Dhaka, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Mymensingh, Munshiganj, Tangail, and Brahmanbaria district.
Similar raids were also conducted in Bhola, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Sunamganj, Habiganj, Bagerhat, Kustia, Jashore, Jhenaidah, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Rajshahi, Natore, Sirajganj, Naogaon, and Pabna districts.
During the raids in Savar and Ashulia, two adjacent areas of Dhaka, the officials of the consumer rights protection body fined Barsha Bricks, Meghna Bricks, Raju Bricks, and AB Bricks Tk1 lakh each for irregularities in measurement scales, the media statement read.
Fines totalling Tk3.49 lakh were imposed on 57 entities nationwide on allegations, including processing of unhygienic food, using contraband ingredients in food, irregularities in delivery of products, excessive overpricing of goods, etc.
