Putting runs on the board will be crucial: Brathwaite
Brathwaite believes his batters are ready for the Test challenge coming in front of them.
Windies had a poor run of form in the ODI series and were clean sweeped with their weakened side. They, however, have a better Test squad, according to their skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and are looking to put up a better display in the Test series beginning from Wednesday.
Windies mainly struggled with their batting in the ODIs. Brathwaite believes his batters are ready for the Test challenge coming in front of them.
"I am backing the batters. The guys have put in some work, and we all look forward to the challenge," Brathwaite said during a press conference on Tuesday.
Brathwaite knows the key to do better will be putting runs on the board and ask Bangladesh to go for it. He mentioned that they have their work cut out and need to execute them properly.
"As batsmen, we have our specific plans, and we must trust them. We just have to go out there and execute your plan, as simple as that."
"It is crucial for us to put runs on the board, I think that'll be key for this Windies team," Brathwaite added.
Windies skipper also hinted at a spin-heavy side in the first Test as the pitch will be dry and spinners will get more help than the pacers. But he believes his pacers may also get the chance to showcase their ability.
"The spinners will feature in this game, which is my honest opinion. I still think there's always room for pacers. We played on a low pitch in the practice game but the pacers still did a good job by applying a lot of pressure."
For Windies, Rakheem Cornwall will be very very important, Brathwaite knows that too. His offspin will come in handy on the dry pitch to restrict Bangladeshi batsmen and pick up wickets.
"Rakheem (Cornwall) did a very good job in the practice game. He created a lot of pressure by bowling dot balls. I think he will do well in this series. He is a quality offspinner. We have to support him in the field, but that's for every bowler not only Rakheem," the skipper added.
