Environment minister lambasts CDA for defying hill cutting design
The environment department has recently fined the CDA Tk10 crore for its defiance
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin has come down heavily on the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) for not complying with the design set for cutting hills prior to construction of dwelling houses and roads.
The environment department has recently fined the CDA Tk10 crore for its defiance.
The environment minister visited newly-built houses in Batali Hill and Motijhorna area, and the Bayezid-Faujdarhat bypass road on Thursday.
"None would have been affected if the road had been constructed according to the design. The CDA was supposed to make slopes while cutting the hills. But, they did not do so which is frustrating.
To stop hill cutting, we have to create awareness through media of the devastating impact of hill cutting," he said.
"The CDA has not worked according to the design. We will determine further actions regarding this after a meeting," he added.
Among others, Ziaul Hasan, secretary to the ministry, AKM Rafique Ahammad, director general of the Department of Environment, and Mohammad Moazzem Hossain, director of the Chattogram environment department, accompanied the minister.
