Emergency meeting underway to outline lockdown rules
Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam has convened an emergency meeting to formulate the guidelines of the 7-day lockdown announced to be enforced across the country.
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Dr Ahmad Kaikaus and secretaries, senior secretaries of all ministries and directorates are reportedly attending the meeting virtually today afternoon.
At the same time, representatives of the three armed forces, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the BGB, the Director General of Ansar and the heads of four intelligence agencies were also invited to attend the meeting, reports BanglaTribune.
According to sources, the meeting will set the lockdown deadline, in addition to finalising a detailed action plan regarding implementation of the lockdown.
As Covid-19 situation has taken a very dangerous turn here, Bangladesh government has imposed a 7-day countrywide lockdown, starting from Monday, primarily to stop the spread of the dreaded virus.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader informed it to media.
"The factories and industrial areas will remain open during the lockdown with limited workers in different shifts maintaining hygiene rules," State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told The Business Standard.
