Those who attacked Hathazari Police Station and the Awami League office in Brahmanbaria would not be spared, said Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak on Sunday evening.

"The Awami League is ready to tackle every situation," he said while addressing a gathering arranged at Moulvibazar Zilla Parishad marking the golden jubilee of the country's independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Speaking as the chief guest, he said, "One of the leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam declared that they would cause havoc on 26 March and we waited for it."

They entered the national mosque carrying bricks and stones and violated its sanctity, he added.

Moulvibazar Zilla Parishad Chairman Misbahur Rahman presided over the programme while its Administrative Officer Mir Nahid Ahsan, local MP Nesar Ahmed, Superintendent of Police Jakaria Ahmed, central Awami League Organising Secretary Shafiul Alam Nadel, and some others were present on the occasion.
