Tamim Iqbal's mammoth unbeaten 334, followed by young off-spinner Nayeem Hasan's six wickets, led Islami Bank East Zone to victory over Walton Central Zone in the first round of the 8th Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) as BCB South Zone and BCB North Zone shared the spills at Chattogram.
East Zone had a lead of 342 runs after their first innings riding on Tamim Iqbal's triple hundred and Mominul Haque's century. Central Zone ended the third day on 115-3 but were struck an early blow in the final day as their skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was sent back for 58. Mohammad Mithun and Taibur Rahman put up a good stand to show them hopes of avoiding an innings defeat. Nayeem Hasan stole the show on the final day as he went on to pick up six wickets to dismantle the Central Zone batting and help East Zone move to the top of the BCL table with a win by an innings and nine runs.
Mithun and Taibur scored 83 and 62 respectively for Central Zone but that only reduced the margin of defeat for them. Tamim was adjudged man of the match for his record-breaking unbeaten triple ton.
In the other match at Chattogram, South Zone had set North Zone a target of 454 after South Zone declared their innings at 398-3 after all of Shahriar Nafees, Shamsur Rahman and Mahmudullah Riyad hit tons.
North Zone started their innings in a cautious way and started day 4 with 22 on board. Riding on Liton Das' century and Junaid Siddique's fifty, North Zone ended the day on 278-4 as the match ended in a draw.
Shafiul Islam of South Zone was adjudged man of the match for his six wickets in North Zone's first innings.
