A stunning story based on surfing, No Dorai was released on Friday. Directed by Taneem Rahman Angshu, the lead roles are played by Sunerah Binte Kamal and Shariful Raj.
One of the interesting things about the movie is that Sunerah and Raj did not know surfing before they began to shoot for the film. They learned surfing in three months while staying at Cox's Bazar.
"It was like a war for me! At first, I thought I would be a failure, but the trainer helped me a lot," said Sunerah, recalling her memories while learning surfing.
"The saline water almost burnt my skin but I was not disheartened, I kept learning until I achieved success," she added.
Once she fell into the water after the rope from the surfing board tore, but thankfully, she was rescued by her trainer.
Sunerah remembered her parent's inspirations behind her commitment to learning something as new and invigorating as surfing. She said, "My parent contacted me through video calls during the training period. They always told me to keep trying and never lose hope."
Raj said, "I never thought that I would have to perform such a laborious task for the movie. I had been to the beach many times but surfing was a completely different thing. I even thought of escaping during the training, but I stuck to it till the end."
"Before I learnt how to surf, I was a late riser. However, I had no difficulty to wake up early in the morning during the training period. It was the appeal of the sport which would wake me up," said Sunerah.
Both of them described the period as a time of great struggle and both are now eager to see how the audience receives the story.
No Dorai was released in several theatres in the country including Star Cineplex in Dhaka where it was premiered on Friday. Producer Mahbubur Rahman Ruhel said, "The story is based on the life of a fearless female surfer in the country named Nasima."
Based on the story of No Dorai, a comic titled 'Adventures of Ayesha', has been published by Star Cineplex. Director Taneem Rahman Angshu has requested audiences around the country to watch the film.
