Duty, Vat waived on import of masks, equipment
A gazette notification issued by the National Board of Revenue also announced a duty waiver on the import of raw materials of the apparel sector
The National Board of Revenue has revoked all manner of duties and value added tax (Vat) on import of various kinds of coronavirus protective equipment, including N95 and KN95 masks.
Import duties have also been withdrawn on plastic face shields, protective spectacles, goggles and protective garments made from plastic sheeting.
In this regard, NBR recently issued a gazette notification signed by its Chairman, Abu Hena Rahmatul Munim.
The notification also announced a duty waiver on the import of raw materials of the apparel sector. However, to avail the facility, products first have to be certified by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association.
Other Covid diagnosis and treatment products that have secured the duty and vat free facility include test kits, breathing appliances and gas masks, Covid-19 diagnostic test instruments and apparatus.
