The number of cows has increased whereas the number of goats has drastically decreased in the previous year throughout the country.
The information was revealed at the launching ceremony of the Preliminary Report of Agriculture Census 2019 held at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) in the city's Agargaon area on Sunday.
The census also revealed the numbers of buffalo, duck, chicken, turkey and sheep as well.
The report says, the number of cattle in the country was found to be 2,84,87,415 and the number of goats was 1,92,87,413 countrywide.
According to a report by the Department of Livestock in 2018, the number of cow was 2.39 crore and the number of goat was 2.59 crore.
This shows, there is an increase in the cow number by 46 lakhs. On the other hand, the number of goats decreased by 66 lakhs.
Project Director of the Agriculture Census Jafor Ahmed Khan made a power-point presentation highlighting the findings of the census.
Planning Minister MA Mannan was the chief guest while Statistics Division Secretary Saurendra Nath Chakrabhartty, Agriculture Secretary Md Nasiruzzaman, Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Md. Raisul Alam Mondal and BBS Director General Mohammad Tajul Islam spoke on the occasion as special guests.
