Chevron holds Tree Plantation in Sylhet

Chevron Bangladesh, the leading international oil company in the country, is holding tree plantation programmes in various areas in Sylhet as part of its ongoing efforts in environmental stewardship.

The company has been organising tree plantation programmes since 2005, Chevron Bangladesh said in a statement.

Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury of Sylhet City inaugurated the program.

The superintendents of Chevron's Jalalabad and Moulavi Bazar gas plants, and managers and employees of the Lackatoorah and Majdehee tea estates, among others, were also present at the event.

The events were held in collaboration with the Bangladesh chapter of Chevron's XYZ Network, an employee network.

The first tree plantation programme this year was held in June to mark World Environment Day.

Over the past 14 years, over 137,000 timber-yielding, fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings have been planted in different areas near Chevron's three gas plants in the North-East of the country.

Ariful Haque Choudhury thanked Chevron for participating in and supporting Sylhet City Corporation's "Green City, Clean City" initiative. He informed the audience that the Krishnochurra saplings will be planted on the banks of the Surma River, and Radhachurra on the newly-constructed road dividers in major thoroughfares of Sylhet town.
