Workers Party still part of 14-party alliance: Menon
Menon said his party will submit a satisfactory explanation over his controversial comment on the general election
Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said his party continues to be a part of the 14-party alliance led by the Awami League, and this is why the alliance sought an explanation for his recent comment on the 11th parliamentary election.
He also added his party will submit an explanation to the 14-party alliance regarding the issue.
Menon made the statement on Friday while responding to reporters after inaugurating a Workers Party conference at the City Centre hall room in Narayanganj.

Addressing the programme, Menon said, "A part of my statement on the parliamentary election made during the Workers Party Barishal district summit was taken out of context."
"That particular part of my statement was shared on various social media platforms and published by the media, which led to confusion and controversy. If the statement was published in full instead of just a fragment, it would not be so controversial."
Adding that he has discussed the matter with the coordinator of the 14-party alliance, Mohammad Nasim, Menon continued, "I will submit a satisfactory explanation regarding the issue."
"I have nothing to hide. I already revealed what my explanation will be in recent conferences held in Dohar upazila and Dhaka. I will finalise my response after discussing the matter with Workers Party leaders."
On October 19, Menon at a programme in Barishal said the people could not cast their votes in the December 30 polls and subsequently in local body ones.
Meanwhile, speaking about the country's workers and farmers at the programme, Menon said, "Bangladesh is moving forward, and the driving force behind the country's progress is workers and farmers. But farmers are not getting fair price for their crops."
"Crimes such as robbery, murder and rape have become rampant in the country. The culprits would have used the media to label murdered madrasa student [in Feni] Nusrat as characterless had the prime minister not involved into the process."
He added that Minni, accused in Barguna's Rifat murder case, tried to save her husband from killers but she was turned into a controversial character through a viral video.
District Workers Party President Hafizur Rahman presided over the event, while Presidium Member Moinuddin Ahmed spoke at the programme among many others.
