Two policemen closed over implicating youth in narcotics case

Two policemen on Monday have been closed over an allegation of harassing a youth and implicating him in a narcotics case.

Mohammadpur police station Sub-Inspector Alamgir Hossain and Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Zakariya are the accused.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon division) Anisur Rahman Anisur Rahman confirmed the issue to The Business Standard.

In 2009, a narcotic case was filed with the Mohammadpur police station and a drug dealer named Monir was charge-sheeted, according to the police.

Meanwhile, on August 30, Zakariya arrested motor mechanic Md Kamal Hossain from Shamyoli instead of accused Monir, over the similarity of their fathers' names.

After scrutiny of the case documents, the Mohammadpur police station set Kamal free.

But after a few days, Alamgir started demanding bribe from him. Failing that the police official threatened Kamal to frame him in the case again.

To make an allegation, on Monday, Kamal met with DMP's Joint Commissioner (Crime) Shaikh Nazmul Alam. Then Nazmul directed DMP's Tejgaon Division to investigate the allegation.

During the primary investigation, the accused were withdrawn from their duty and closed.

"We have taken the issue seriously and will take strong action if we find them guilty after investigation," said Anisur.
