Two suspected drug dealers including one Rohingya were killed in a reported gunfight with police at Parjatan Bazar area in Teknaf upazila early today.
The deceased Ahmad Hossain, 45, of upazila's Hatiar Ghona area and Abdur Rahman, 46, a resident of Noyapara Rohingya camp, were arrested on Friday, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station.
Police conducted a raid at Parjatan Bazar area with the Ahmad and Abdur Rahman to seize huge amounts of yaba and drugs. As soon as the law enforcers reached there, miscreants opened fire on them, forcing them to retaliate, said Pradip Kumar.
He said Ahmad and Abdur Rahman sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight. They were later taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctor declares them dead, said the officer-in-charge. The bodies were kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Two pistols, four rounds of fresh cartridges and 5,000 pieces of Yaba were recovered from the scene, he added.
The officer-in-charge also said Ahmad and Abdur Rahman were wanted in six cases under the Narcotics Control Act. Separate cases are being filed in this connection.
