A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers at Hoaikong union of Teknaf in Cox's Bazar early today.

The deceased Selim Prakash Chholim, 34, resident of Chakmarkul area of the union, was also involved in drug dealing, said Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.

He said police detained Chholim on Tuesday night and as per his information, police conducted a drive at an area beside Keruntoli Primary School with him to recover arms and drugs.

Other cohorts of Chholim opened fire on police that time, forcing the law enforcer to retaliate, said Pradip Kumar.

Chholim sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight, the OC added.

Police rushed him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared him dead.

One light gun, six rounds of fresh cartridges, seven rounds of bullet shells and 1,000 pieces of Yaba were recovered from the spot.
