Two suspected yaba peddlers including a Rohingya were killed in a reported ‘gunfight’ with the member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) near Teknaf’s Leda camp in Cox's Bazar on Tuesday night.
The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
BGB commanding officer of Teknaf-2 Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Hasan Khan said: “On information on a Yaba consignment, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area at around 11 pm.”
BGB men signaled a boat to stop on the canal, but the boat did not pay any heed. Instead, the miscreants opened fire on BGB men, forcing them to retaliate, leaving two suspected drug dealers bullet injured, he added.
They were taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctor declared them dead.
BGB also recovered one lakh yaba pills and some firearms from the spot.
