Social Action Committee (SAC) a platform of 68 women, Human rights and development organisations, condemned torture and detention of Prothom Alo Senior Journalist Rozina Islam at the Secretariat.

"We have come to learn with shock and deep concern that Rozina Islam was detained in Health Service division for five hours and she was tortured. She also fell sick after torture. Later, she was handed over to Shahbagh Police Station", said a SAC statement.

SAC is strongly condemning this type of behaviour and assault on a female journalist during her official duty.

"At the same time, we are surprised and outraged by the picture of physical abuse of a high-ranking government official on a woman journalist," said the statement.

The committee demanded immediate release and medical treatment of Rozina Islam, as well as an impartial investigation.

They also demanded legal action against those involved in this incident.
