Two workers were killed and three others injured when the roof of an under-construction power substation at Barapukuria coal mine collapsed on Sunday.

The deceased were Akash Chandra, 16, son of Shomor Chandra of Bajitpur village in Fulbari upazila and Proshanto Ray, 17, son of Debura Ray of Hamidpur Chougachi village in Parbotipur upazila of Dinajpur district.

Fulbari uapzila health and family planning officer (UHFPO) Dr Md Nurul Islam said they were brought dead to the hospital.

Sultan Mahmud, in charge of Barapukuria police outpost, said a unit of Fulbari Fire Service rescued the injured after the roof of the under-construction power substation collapsed on 8-10 workers working there at 5pm in the evening.

The injured were taken to Fulbari upazila health complex.
