RMG worker dies being hit by brick of under-construction building

A readymade garment worker has died being hit by a brick falling off an under-construction multistoried building in Jatrabari area of the capital on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Runa Akhter, 22, a residentof West Mominbagh of the area.

The victim's husband Shaheen said that the incident took place around 7:45am when his wife was on her way to her workplace, Mollah Garment.

As she was passing by the four-storied under-construction building, a brick chip fell on her head and injured her critically.

She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead around 9:00am.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, confirmed the matter, saying the body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.

However, Md Shahinur Rahman, an inspector of Jatrabari Police Station, said they inspected the area. Construction was not going on during the accident in the morning.

Police were looking into the suspected negligence of construction workers, he added.
