Train-pickup collision in Mirsarai, services restored within two hours
No casualties were reported after the collision
A Paharika Express train collided with a sand-laden pickup in Mirsarai, Chattogram. Although no casualties were reported, train movement on both lines was temporarily suspended after the accident.
The incident took place around 8:55am today (7 June) at a level crossing in the Sonapahar Mama Fakir Mazar area under Jorarganj Union of the upazila.
According to locals, the sand-laden pickup got stuck on the rail track while crossing the level crossing near Mama Fakir Mazar in Jorarganj. Seeing the Paharika Express train, travelling from Chattogram to Sylhet, approaching at high speed, the driver and helper quickly got out of the vehicle.
The train then hit the pickup with force, leaving it mangled and dragging it nearly half a kilometre away. As a result, both railway lines were blocked.
Railway's Chattogram Divisional Transport Officer Farhan Mahmud told The Business Standard that both the up and down lines had remained closed due to the accident.
"As a result, Cox's Bazar Express and Sonar Bangla on the Chattogram-Dhaka route, and Bijoy Express on the Mymensingh route, were stuck. However, one railway line was restored at 10:40am and the trains were allowed to pass. The process of clearing the other line with a wrecker is underway," he said.
