The halted rail communication between Dhaka and the northern districts has partly resumed at around 08:30pm on Thursday.

"One of the two railway lines (meter gauge) got damaged in the accident. The communication has been resumed using the other railway line (broad gauge)," Station Master of Ullapara Railway Station Rafiqul Islam confirmed The Business Standard.

Earlier on the day, three compartments, including the power car, of the Rangpur Express train caught fire in Sirajganj's Ullapara.

Besides, the engine and six compartments of the train veered off the track.

The accident halted rail communication between Dhaka and the northern districts.
