Three Bangladeshi nationals, including Premium sweets owner Moniruzzaman Bijoy, died on Thursday in a road accident in Canada.

The deceased were identified as Moniruzzaman Bijoy, his mother-in-law, and Liyakat Hossain - who is also reportedly involved with the Premium Sweets business.

The accident took place in the afternoon (local time) while they were travelling from Toronto to Ottawa.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the single-vehicle crash happened as it veered off Highway 401 near Cornwall in Ontario on the highway's westbound lanes between the Boundary Road and McConnell Avenue exits. The initial investigation said that the vehicle left the highway, hit the ditch, and caught fire.

Moniruzzaman breathed his last while being treated at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto and the two others died on the spot, Canada-based online portal 'Probash Bangla Voice' reported.

Moniruzzaman Bijoy is one of the proprietors of the renowned Bangladeshi dessert brand "Premium Sweets" and also the younger brother of Bangladesh Business Chamber of Canada (BBCC) President HM Iqbal.

Headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Premium Sweets manages multiple production facilities globally with corporate-owned and operated retail and restaurant outlets in Bangladesh, Canada and the USA.
