Muggers snatch Tk16 lakh from Gazipur businessman

Muggers allegedly snatched Tk16.41 lakh from a businessman in Gazipur on Sunday morning.

Nurul Hoque Ratan, who was robbed at the district's Chandona Chowrasta area, is the owner of the "Japan Tobacco" – a cigarette manufacturing company.

Kawsar Ahmed Chowdhury, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police Station, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

Nurul Hoque said he and six employees of his firm were on their way to a local branch of the Pubali Bank to deposit the money when a group of five or six muggers attacked them.

"Muggers fired four rounds of bullets in the air. Then they snatched the money from us and fled the scene on motorcycles parked nearby," he said.

Nurul Hoque and his employee Sohel were injured during the attack.

OC Kawsar said they are trying to arrest the muggers. He however denied any shooting incident during the attack.
