Miscreants cut down about 10,000 mango trees in Naogaon
Around 1 crore mangoes are estimated to grow in the next mango season from the chopped trees.
A group of miscreants chopped down at least 10000 mango trees of 12 farmers over factional clash in Naogaon's Sapahar on Wednesday.
According to locals, miscreants on Wednesday midnight chopped down the mango orchard spreading over 60 bighas on the west-south side of Jamalpur village.
The farmers were shocked at the view of the cut-off trees in the morning.
According to farmers, they have no idea why and who chopped their trees during the pre-seasonal time.
Around 1 crore mangoes are estimated to grow in the next mango season from the chopped trees.
Mosharraf Hossain Mukta, a farmer of Sapahar, lost about 1300 trees planted on 12 bighas of land.
"Of the seven bighas, he leased Tk20.3 lakh for the next five years on yesterday afternoon," he said.
Sikander Ali from the same village lost 173 trees planted on 2 Bighas of land.
"The trees have been cut down in such way that there is no other option to re-plant them," he said.
The farmers want a proper investigation into the incident.
Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahjan Hossain, Upazila Executive Officer Kalyan Chowdhury and Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hai already visited the spot but police case is yet to file.
