Expatriates returning to Bangladesh will face three months of jail time or Tk50,000 fine, or both, if they do not self-quarantine, says a circular issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday.
The circular also states that anyone spreading misinformation on the disease or hiding information regarding any coronavirus patient will face two months of jail or Tk25,000 fine, or both.
"Some of the expatriates who returned are not complying with the quarantine policy and are spreading rumours," the circular reads.
Mentioning some clauses of the Communicable Diseases Prevention, Control and Eradication Act 2018 and advising everyone to comply with them, the DGHS said people violating the law will be brought to book.
"Although Covid-19 has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), people of Bangladesh should not worry about it," the circular further says.
