Electrocution, lightning kills 2 in Satkhira

Two people were killed in separate accidents due to heavy rain and storm in Satkhira on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Malluk Kabiraj, 70, of Asandanga in Dhulihar union, and Nirapada Baroi, 50, from Faijullahpur in Fingri union.
Babu Sana, chairman of Dhulihar Union Parishad, said Malluk Kabiraj went to bring his cows back home at around 4 pm in the midst of strong winds and rain.
"On his way back, a torn power cable fell on his body in strong winds and he was electrocuted," he said.
Nirapada was struck by lightning, sheltering under a shed in heavy rain. "He had gone to fetch a cow from a nearby beel," said Fingri Union Parishad Chairman, Shamsur Rahman.
Satkhira Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Delwar Hossain, said no one reported the incidents to the police station. "We will be looking for details," he added.
Satkhira Meteorological Department Officer Zulfiqar Ali said there were strong winds, rain and thunder, in the afternoon in the district.
"However, this cannot be called the effect of cyclone Yaas," he said.
