Dhaka South to run mobile courts from 1 April to control dengue

The Dhaka South City Corporation will start mobile court drives from 1 April to destroy larvae of Aedes mosquito, carrier of the virus responsible for dengue fever.

Dhaka South Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh gave the instructions in this regard at a weekly review meeting of the mosquito control campaign at Nagar Bhaban on Sunday.

At the meeting, Taposh said overall integrated activities and surveillance must be increased in a bid to save the Dhaka south dwellers from the outbreak of dengue. Additionally, mobile court operations should be intensified to bring relief among city dwellers.

"So, operate the mobile courts from 1 April as an advance preparation for tackling dengue," he said.

At the meeting, mayor Taposh directed officials to run mobile courts giving priority to those wards and areas where mosquito density is high, following the pre-monsoon survey conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services.

The Dhaka South mayor also directed officials to strengthen mobile court operations in various government agencies, institutions and under construction buildings, private establishments.

Taposh also called upon Dhaka dwellers to take self-motivated initiatives to destroy the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.

Regarding the campaign, Dhaka South Chief Executive Officer ABM Amin Ullah Nuri said, "From 1 April, our executive magistrates will start operating mobile courts. Additionally, our regional executive officers will also conduct mobile courts this time."

The Dhaka South's Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Dr Sharif Ahmed, its secretary Akramuzzaman and regional executive officers were, among others, present at the meeting.
