Top terror Zeesan’s aide Shakil remanded

A Dhaka court today granted three-day remand to interrogate top criminal Mazharul Islam Shakil, who returned from Dubai in January this year aiming to take over Dhaka's underworld following the recent crackdown on casinos.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinoor Rahman issued the order after investigation officer Sub-Inspector Morshed Alam of Mohammadpur police station produced him before the court seeking a seven-day remand.

Mohammadpur police station's General Recording Officer Sub Inspector Nizamuddin Fakir confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

The RAB arrested Shakil alias Shakil Mazhar with pistols and bullets from the capital's Mohammadpur area on Saturday.

According to Rapid Action Battalion, Shakil is an associate of one of the Interpol's most wanted criminals Ali Akbar Chowdhury alias Zeesan. Shakil allegedly returned with a plan to re-launch his criminal activities in Bangladesh with the guidance and assistance from top criminal Zeesan.
