Regent Hospital owner Shahed still on the run
He did not even attend his father’s funeral
Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed's father Sirajul Islam died from Covid-19 on July 9.
However, Shahed is still on the run, his family members and law enforcers said.
Shahed's wife Sadia Arabi Rimmy told The Business Standard that he did not even attend his father's funeral.
"This may be the revenge of nature. He cheated people and now his father died from Covid-19. He could not even see his father for the last time."
Earlier, Uttara and Mirpur branches of Regent Hospital – owned by Shahed – were sealed off for allegedly faking Covid-19 test certificates and over other irregularities.
Shahed has been running away for the last four days, as a fugitive, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the "law enforcers are trying their best to nab him soon".
"No matter how big a fraudster Shahed is, he will not succeed in getting away."
Earlier, on September 27, 2016, a home ministry letter described Shahed as a "fraudster" for identifying himself as an army official.
The letter also asked the then Inspector General of Police Shahidul Haque to take action against him.
When asked, Shahidul Haque said, "Right now, I cannot remember what the letter said. It all happened four years ago."
However, the home minister told the media yesterday some people that he knows got admitted to Shahed's Regent Hospital.
"Apart from this, I did not know any other identity of him. Just before the RAB drive, Shahed called me and asked for help."
"He told me everything was being sealed off. And I said you must have done something wrong. That is why they are sealing it off," the minister said.
"Then, he asked me for directions. I told him to face the situation or go to the court if he has to defend himself."
Asaduzzaman Khan also said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina did not even spare her party's lawmakers and leaders when it came to wrongdoings.
"If Shahed's crime is proved, he must be punished. RAB and police are looking for him."
Meanwhile, RAB Director (Legal and Media wing) Lieutenant Colonel Ashik Billah said, "We have deployed multiple intelligence teams working in and outside the capital. We are alert and will be able to arrest Shahed soon."
