JSS member killed in Rangamati shootout
The army fired back in self-defense and a member of the group was found dead after the gun battle
A member of the Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti's (JSS) SantuLarma group was killed in a shootout with the army at Dulla Chhari area ofRangamati on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Binton Chakma, a known extortionist in the Baradam, Jibtoli and Mogban areas of Rangamati district. He has multiple cases, including murder, logded againsthim, said an ISPR press release.
A special patrol team of Jibtoli army camp raided Dullar Chhar raided the area upon receiving information that JSS (Santu) criminals were extorting money from fishermen at Kaptai Lake.
During the raid, the army located a group of the armed criminals who were extorting money from the fishermen hailing from a boat. They open fired gunfire when the army patrol team tried to intercept the boat.
The army fired back in self-defense and a member of the group was found dead after the gun battle. Other members of the group fled the scene by jumping into the river.
Later the army recovered a foreign made pistol with three rounds of ammunition from the boat.
